Compared with other pool types, concrete tools are more prone to cracks. Generally, this can be attributed to deficiency in the mixture used during the initial plastering. Small cracks, over time, can grow into deep ones. Thus, there's need for immediate swimming pool repair.
As you spot a crack, deepen or enlarge it by half an inch. Widen it too at both ends. Dust off sand particles in it. Follow it up with the application of caulk. Caulk is very important as it will make the crack water-tight. This will keep water from seeping deep into the crack. Let it dry. Do not forget to leave enough space for the application of plaster.
As soon as the caulk gets dry, get ready with you plaster mixture. You will need sand, white Portland cement, bonding agent and some water as materials. Just mix them together. Before applying this blend on the caulked crack, sprinkle some water on it. Leave no space for air or water. Apply the mixture thoroughly. Check if it's leveled with the pool surface. Keep it moistened for few days so that the mixture sets properly.
Plaster Restoration
Never think of pool renovation, if you have got plaster problems. Its repair could be as easy as the crack repair, however, it make require more time and effort. Secure a hammer and a chisel for the removal of the loose plaster. Carefully take them out without disturbing the solid parts. Once done, get the exact measure of the area that needs patch-up.
Just like what you did with the crack repair, prepare a mixture for your plaster repair. Mix one-third of Portland cement and two-thirds of sand. Add a bonding agent and mix them well with water to make it semi-solid.
Just like what you did the crack, sprinkle the water on the damaged spot. Apply on it the mixture that you have made thoroughly. Be sure there are no spaces for air bubbles. If you do this, the plaster will not chip off quickly. Make the edges of the new patches smooth with water. Don't forget to even it out with the surface. Keep the area moistened until the pool is filled with water.
Should you have problems like foundation-breaking cracks and faulty water filtration or plumbing system, have your swimming pool repair done by a professional service provider. Doing these on your own would just create further damage.
